1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease and flour 4 ramekins or small oven-safe dishes.
2. Melt Butter and Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the butter and chocolate together until smooth. Stir well to combine.
3. Mix in Sugar
Add the powdered sugar to the melted chocolate mixture and stir until well combined.
4. Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, into the chocolate mixture. Stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Incorporate Flour and Salt
Gently fold in the flour and a pinch of salt until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
6. Fill Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins.
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes. The edges should be set, but the center will still be soft.
Allow the lava cakes to cool for a few minutes before running a knife around the edges and inverting them onto serving plates. The center should be gooey.
